Zei Gezunt with Bubbe's Remedies
For Insomnia

Editor: Yael Rosenberg, RN, B.S.H

When counting sheep does not help, when reciting the fifty U.S. and their capitals fail to ease the way into sleep Bubbe is here to help. No sleeping pills, no prescription drug, nothing poisonous. Bubbe, the naturalist recommends the following:

Warm Milk - On those sleepless nights, one old fashioned remedy that has been used since time immemorial is drinking a very warm glass of milk. Bubbe may not have known this, but milk contains tryptophan, a substance that helps produce the serotonin. One of the important actions of serotonin is that it promotes normal sleep patterns.

Honey and Lavender Oil Honey and lavender oil mixed in bathwater helps the body relax. Relaxation combats insomnia.

If your grandmother, aunt, or neighbor revealed an old-fashioned remedy to you, and you would like to share it with us all, please send it to
