Zei Gezunt with Bubbe's Remedies
For Infected and Irritated Eyes

Editor: Yael Rosenberg, RN, B.S.H

Bubbe had a store of remedies in her kitchen to relieve eye infections and irritations.
Cabbage leaves were used to relieve sore, infected eyes.
Honey water can be used as an eye lotion if the eye is infected.
Cold bread applied to closed eyes reduced eye irritation and swelling.
And when your heart breaks and you spent a couple of hours crying your eyes out.. and now you feel better but, oh my God.. the whole world will know, looking at your red brimmed windows to the soul.  Don't you worry, Bubbe to the rescue.  Dunk tea bags in warm water and place one on each eye.  The redness will disappear. Give it five to 10 minutes.

If your grandmother, aunt, or neighbor revealed an old-fashioned remedy to you, and you would like to share it with us all, please send it to
